Portrait photography means different things to different people. For me the most important thing about a portrait is that is capture a bit of your personality. Sometimes I am doing a portrait for an executive and they simply want to look professional. Other portrait shoots are more personal, like a session with a high school senior.
Recently I was honored to participate in a project to raise money for the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance. I shot 12 portraits of Harford County residents who are cancer survivors to produce a calendar with the theme “life goes on, there is life after cancer.” For these portraits I tried to get to know the subjects as well as possible before photographing each one doing something they love. On this page you will see a few of those portraits; Betty and her beloved dog Sophie, Debi Bell-Matassa checking the wine in her restaurant Alchemy and Dawn with her husband after a motorcycle ride.
